The Surf and Yoga Week // Morocco // 17th - 24th June 2017


Welcome to this exclusive surf and yoga retreat at one of our favourite camps - Sunshine Surf Morocco. The camp is set in the culturally rich town, Tamraght- just 45 minutes from Agadir airport where you can grab cheap flights to. This week is for anyone that wants to detox from the strains of work and fully immerse in the benefits yoga and surfing can bring. It is also for those that are sun worshipers and appreciate the best food Morocco has to offer!

Sunshine Surf have teamed up with yoga instructor Josh Sparks who will take you through a personalised mix of dynamic and relaxing yoga. Having completed his 200hr yoga course in India, he has been teaching in the UK whilst carrying on his passion for watersports. We are 100% sure you will love him as much as we do. Taking your yoga moves from land to water; Sunshine Surf will guide you to the best beaches in the area, provide all your equipment and get you surfing or improving in no time. Their instructors are fantastic and will make sure you get the instruction you need to make you leave with a smile at the end of the week and wanting to come back for more.


The Yoga

Hey guys, I’m Josh and I’ll be running the yoga during your weeks stay in the beautiful town of Tamraght, Morocco.

I’m from South Coast and have grown up with an appreciation for the outdoors and activities. I have been sailing for as long as I can remember and competed for GBR. In my teens I really got into surfing, skating, windsurfing, wake boarding and anything fun that I could get my hands on and was water based. I first found Yoga when I was 17 and I went with my mum to a class; I absolutely loved it! Since that first class, Yoga has embedded its way into my life and positively impacted it in so many ways. Now I enjoy sharing my love for yoga and the life changing potential it has. 

I completed 200 hours Teach Training in Rishikesh, India in Hatha Yoga and now teach around 6 classes per week in Wales, alongside studying my Masters Degree in Chiropractic.

I use yoga as my foundation for all other activities and you will come to understand how well it can help your surfing too! My own daily Yoga practise/study is very varied from Yin Yoga to Ashtanga, which reflects in my teachings as I like to show my students the diversity of yoga to find an aspect that resonates personally with them. 

Over the week there will be 2 classes everyday: the morning classes will be more energising and the evening classes more calming and meditative. When I was getting into yoga I always wanted to practise at home but didn’t know any sequences. So throughout the week we will return to some familiar ‘flows’ and vinyasas for you to take away from the holiday and maybe build your own routine with. We will explore the importance of alignment of poses, pranayama, meditation and some philosophy! A week of yoga will bring about balance, strength and flexibility of the body and mind.

Although the classes will vary, the general theme of the morning classes will be progressive, fast and uplifting to prepare you for the day’s surf! Evening classes will be more meditative and relaxing putting emphasis on releasing the muscle groups involved in surfing.

Whether you’re a seasoned Yogi or you have never indulged in it before, I’m excited to share my love for Yoga and surfing with you.

The Surf


Whether you have never surfed before or you are a seasoned surfer - Sunshine Surf Morocco have you covered. During your stay, all your equipment is provided for surfing including wetsuits and boards. The camps' fantastic instructors will take you to the most suitable beaches where you will be based during the day. Lessons are around 2 hours in the morning and split across 5 days. In the afternoons you can chill at the beach or use the equipment to practice what you learnt in the morning.

For those that can surf and have their own equipment Sunshine Surf offer surf guiding. You will be taken to the best breaks in the area for the waves matched to your ability. You will not receive any formal training as such, but the guides will show you the best places to get out using the rips and will give you some pointers.

A typical day

7:45am: Wake up

Jump out of bed, open the blinds and remind yourself that you are in paradise. Chuck your yoga pants on and head up to the roof terrace to watch the sun start to make its way over the mountains.

8:00am: Morning Yoga Class

Let Josh take you through a progressive Yoga session which will relieve any aches and pains from the day before and is bound to get you energized for the forthcoming activities.

9:15am: Breakfast

Enjoy breakfast either up on the terrace overlooking the town and ocean or in the lounge. Breakfast will consist of a spread of healthy traditional spreads including: eggs, ham, fruit, yogurts, honey coffee, and the famous Moroccan teas. 

10:00am: Head down to the beach / off to your excursion

Get your beach bag together, grab your wetsuit and jump in the vans. Let the Sunshine Surf crew take you to the beaches to surf or on the excursions. The excursions may include a trip to Imsouane with a pit stop to the rolling dessert on the way back for some sandboarding… or even to Paradise Valley - and yes it really is paradise!

11:00am: Surf Lessons Start

Wax up your boards and head in the water for a couple of hours of the finest surf instructing around! 

1:00pm: Lunch

After frolicking around in the water for a couple of hours you have a well deserved lunch waiting for you. Cooked again but the in-house chef - prepare to be wowed. Taking pack-lunches to a whole new level you will have a range of lunches from burgers to Moroccan salads and baguettes.

2:00pm: Enjoy the rest of the afternoon

Have a relaxing afternoon chilling in the sun or surfing. If you don't fancy that then see if one of the Sunshine Surf crew can drop you back at the camp to hang there instead. 

5:00pm: Arrive back at the camp for high tea

After arriving back at the camp, scrub up, have a shower and join everyone on the terrace for a light afternoon tea. Expect Moroccan biscuits, cakes coffee and tea. 

6:30pm: Sunset Yoga Class

Roll out your mat and watch the sun fall over the ocean. Wind down and relax - let Josh take you through a more meditative style of yoga leaving your body ready for a new day tomorrow.

8:00pm: Dinner

Come together for a feast and variety of traditional Moroccan meals, chat about how great your day was and go to bed feeling energized and glad to be on holiday.
